Commentary: Local opportunities for environmentalism amid federal frenzy

BBJ—In an era where federal environmental policy is increasingly volatile and uncertain across all branches of government, corporate and private investment in local environmentalism has become not just a necessity but a lone beacon of hope for preserving the health of our ecosystems. In May, the Supreme Court took steps to limit the environmental review of infrastructure projects, taking much of the power away from the National Environmental Policy Act, considered the nation's premier environmental law since 1970. Moreover, for the last several months, Americans have witnessed countless back-and-forth acts of federal funds being abruptly frozen for environmental programs that communities desperately rely on. Recipient organizations are left in a confusing, frantic limbo on how to continue operations without guarantee of a financial backbone.
