This walk takes us to the mouth of the Neponset River, where it meets Dorchester Bay. We’ll follow a loop trail to observe where the River’s freshwater meets the tidal flow and, depending on the tide, explore a nearby sandbar.

Did you know? Squantum Point has a long aviation history. Before becoming a waterfront park, it was home to Naval Air Station Squantum, which operated from 1917 to 1961 and played an important role in the early development of naval aviation.

Expect to see both resident and migratory birds preparing for their southward journey. You’ll also have the chance to observe coastal plants and wildlife unique to this part of the watershed.

• Distance: Approximately 1–2 miles, depending on spur trails.

• What to bring: Water, snacks, binoculars, hats, sunscreen, and sturdy shoes (no sandals).
